Autism Services – Preschool Life Skills

This group aims to teach skills that will enable children to thrive in a preschool environment. The curriculum focuses on skills that have been identified by preschool teachers as indicative of success. Each session a new skill will be introduced, and opportunities will be created to practice these skills through various games and activities in small groups to address individualized needs.

This program will focus on 13 skills that fall into the four domains below:

• Instruction following
• Functional communication
• Tolerating instructions, expectations, sharing and learning with others
• Friendship

A Behaviour Plan will be created for each participant that will outline their learning goals for the group as well as a progress review to summarize outcomes. Content will be adjusted based on the age range of participants.

Please note, participants will be provided with a light snack and drinks while at group. Please note that we are a peanut and tree nut free facility. It is caregivers responsibility to share any dietary needs or restrictions with staff before the group begins so we can accommodate.

Who is Eligible for the Group?

Children between the ages of 3-5 with an ASD diagnosis.

Commitment to the Group?

Children will attend 3-hour sessions on Tuesday OR Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm for 10 consecutive weeks. Weekly challenges are required to be completed at home with caregiver support. Care giver handouts will be provided each week describing the skills learning and tips to practice at home.

Group Dates: Weeks of September 11^th, 2023, to Thursday November 13^th, 2023

Virtual Caregiver Orientation: Tuesday September 5^th from 1:00-2:00, virtually via Teams)

Children Sessions: Tuesday OR Thursday mornings from 9:00am to 12:00pm

If this group is not the best fit for you and your teen, you will be contacted further with a rationale, and other possible options.

Cost: $1375

Requirements: To access this group, your child/youth requires an ASD diagnosis and must be within the identified age range.
