Maltby offers three Summer Autism programs

Registrations are now open for three unique autism programs this Summer – Flying Solo, Sports and Games and a Creativity Group. Registrations close May 27th. Call us for more details.

Summer 2022 Flying Solo Group

What is involved in Flying Solo- Out and About?

Teens will learn some basic skills on how to fly solo and plan their own hang outs and get togethers. Activities will include time in our classroom learning about each skill and practicing during role plays, as well as putting the skills to use by travelling to nearby fast food restaurants, parks and stores using public transit. The following topics will be covered:

We will be travelling to various locations throughout the group. Teens will have access to $50 over the course of the group in order to make small purchases and pay for bus fare. This is included in the cost of the group. A Behaviour Plan will be created for each participant that will outline their learning goals for the group as well as a progress review to summarize outcomes.

Who is Eligible for Flying Solo?

This group is currently being offered to children 15-18 years of age, with an ASD diagnosis. Groups will be formed based on age and interest of applicants. Participants must be able to communicate in full sentences and not engage in elopement or aggressive behaviour. Participants must be interested and willing to participate and learn the outlined skills. All participants must wear a mask during the group.

Begins July 4th until August22nd – Monday-Thursday evenings 5:30-7:30

*You will be asked to state your preference during the screening process, we will do our best to organize groups based on preferences, but this is not guaranteed.

Registration: Please email ffsintake@maltbycentre.ca. Intake applications will be distributed to all interested parties to help determine eligibility and appropriateness for this group. If this group is not the best fit for you and your child, you will be contacted further with a rationale, and other possible options.

Cost: $1150 Payment must be received in full prior to the start of group.

Location: This group will be held at the Maltby Centre, Suite 100-31 Hyperion Court, Kingston ON, K7K 7G3 and various nearby fast food locations, stores and parks (locations will be confirmed before sessions where travel occurs).

Requirements: To access this group, your child/youth requires an ASD diagnosis and must be within the identified age range.

 

 

Summer 2022 SPORTS and GAMES Group

What is involved in Sports and Games Group?

Children will learn and practice the skills needed to play and enjoy sports and games while learning the skills to make new friends. Activities include various ball sports, competitive and cooperative board games and possibly video games on rainy days. The following topics will be covered:

A Behaviour Plan will be created for each participant that will outline their learning goals for the group as well as a progress review to summarize outcomes. Content will be adjusted based on the age range of participants. Snacks, Drinks and Transportation will not be provided. Participants will be provided with opportunities to have snacks and drinks during group time, please pack one.

Who is eligible for Sports and Games Group?

This group is currently being offered to children 6-14 years of age, with an ASD diagnosis. Groups will be formed based on age and interest. Participants must be able to communicate in full sentences and not engage in elopement or aggressive behaviour. Participants must be interested and willing to participate and learn the outlined skills. Participants must wear masks during the group.

Monday-Thursday 9:00AM-12:00PM OR 1:00PM-4:00PM

Summer 2022 Creativity Group

Come Make Crafts, Move to Music, and Show Off Your Acting Skills while Learning and Practicing Social Skills and Making New Friends

What is involved in Creativity Group?

Children will learn important social skills while getting creative engaging in several activities. Activities include creating different crafts using various materials and mediums, playing games involving moving to music, acting out different feelings, emotions and social interactions in small groups

Content will be adjusted based on the age range of participants. Snacks, Drinks and Transportation will not be provided.
