Throughout the year, we offer single session workshops to multi-week programming to help parents and caregivers obtain the tools and skills to strengthen their relationship with their children.

Groups

COPECommunity Parent Education Program.

(7 sessions)

This education program is for parents of children ages 6 – 12 with challenging behaviours is designed to:

  • improve on existing parenting skills
  • build problem solving skills
  • improve relationships and family functioning
  • develop supportive personal networks
  • increase knowledge of local resources

SEP School Engagement Program.

The focus for this group will be on offering parents/guardians a better understanding of anxiety and the impact it has been having on their child’s ability to attend school. Facilitators share specific strategies to parents based on their child’s specific area of anxiety. Parents will be encouraged to ask questions freely throughout the group. The group will also allow space at the end of each week for questions pertaining to their concerns for their child.

Effective Communication and Consequences (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 6 – 12 is designed to:

  • Improve your communication
  • Explore strategies around listening skills, giving directions and following through
  • Learn how to deliver effective consequences

Emotional Regulation for Parenting Young Children 0-6 (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 0 – 6 is designed to:

  • Learn relationship-based approaches and strategies to manage intense emotions
  • Understand the connection between development and emotional regulation
  • Discuss how caregivers can support their young children with emotional regulation

Emotional Regulation for Parenting Adolescents 11-18 (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of adolescents 11 – 18 is designed to:

  • Learn about youth development
  • Understand how your emotional regulation as parents impacts your youth
  • Learn how to support your youth through communication they understand

Incentives and Positive Reinforcement (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 0 – 12 is designed to:

  • Increase your knowledge about positive reinforcement
  • Explore why it is important
  • Introduce strategies to implement incentives and rewards at home
  • Explore different types of reinforcement and incentives

Parenting Through Divorce/Separation (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 0 – 18 is designed to:

  • Discuss effects of divorce/separation on children
  • Teach you how to talk to your children about divorce/separation
  • Help your child through a divorce/separation

Parenting Your Anxious Child (2 Sessions or full day)

This workshop for parents of children 7 – 18 is designed to:

  • What anxiety is
  • Why our children and teens are having difficulty
  • What can we do to help them better learn to manager their anxiety

Reacting vs. Responding (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 0 – 18 is designed to:

  • Learn the difference between responding and reacting
  • Explore strategies to help regulate emotions
  • Learn to respond to children in a more productive way

Transition to Kindergarten (1 Session)

This workshop for parents of children 3-5 is designed to support children to have a positive, emotionally healthy transition to school.
