Loblaws stores in Kingston Partner with Maltby Centre to Support Children and Youth with Mental Health and Autism

Kingston, Ontario, November 11th 2024

 – Loblaws is proud to announce a new partnership with Maltby Centre, a leading Kingston charity dedicated to supporting children and youth with mental health and autism. This collaboration aims to provide nutritious snacks and drinks to participants of the SNAP® program, enhancing their overall well-being and supporting their journey towards better mental health.

About Maltby Centre

Maltby Centre has been a cornerstone in the Kingston community for over 25 years, offering a range of services to children and youth with mental health challenges and autism. Through innovative programs and dedicated support, Maltby Centre strives to create a nurturing environment where young individuals can thrive. The SNAP® program, one of Maltby Centre’s flagship initiatives, focuses on teaching children self-regulation and problem-solving skills, empowering them to make positive choices.

About the SNAP® Program

SNAP®, which stands for Stop Now and Plan, is an evidence-based cognitive behavioural model that provides a framework for teaching children struggling with behaviour issues, and their parents, effective emotional regulation, self-control and problem-solving skills.

The primary goal of SNAP is to help children to stop and think before they act and keep them in school and out of trouble.

SNAP was developed by Child Development Institute, an accredited children’s mental health organization in Toronto, in 1985 as an intervention program for boys under 12 in conflict with the law. Since then, the program has grown and evolved into an internationally recognized model for teaching troubled children and their parents how to effectively manage their emotions and “keep problems small.”

Partnership Details

Under this one-year agreement, Loblaws stores in Kingston (Princess Street and Cataraqui Market) will provide nutritious snacks and drinks to three cohorts of the SNAP program, each lasting 12 weeks. This initiative underscores Loblaws’ commitment to community well-being and its dedication to supporting local charities.
