
Respite Services
Maltby Centre’s vision for Respite Services is to create safe and supportive environments in the clients’ home, community, and/or our Centre where children and youth can thrive and caregivers can experience much-needed relief, allowing for a balanced and healthy home life for everyone involved.
Individualized Respite Services for Children and Youth (Ages 2-21)

Maltby Centre’s Respite Services provide temporary, supportive care for children aged 2 to 21 with developmental, neurodiverse, and/or mental health needs. Designed to offer relief to families and caregivers, this program ensures that children are cared for in a safe, nurturing, and structured environment while promoting positive experiences.
Program Details:
Program: Operates 7 days a week between the hours of 7:00 am to 9:00 PM.
- Services are provided in centre (31 Hyperion Court), in-home, and/or in the community
Eligibility: Children and youth aged 2-21 who meet the outlined criteria.
- Present with developmental disabilities, neurodiverse conditions (including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and sensory processing differences), or mental health challenges (i.e. anxiety and depression).
- Siblings of children who meet the above eligibility criteria can also access services, please enquire when you reach out for services.
- Youth aged 18-21 will be considered on an individual basis and must be enrolled in the School to Community (LDSB) or Life Skills Program (ALCDSB) to be eligible
Service Cost: $50/hr with the possibility of additional costs (transportation, community outings, etc.) Minimum of 4-hour sessions. If shorter sessions are desired, please connect with staff to explore available options.

Personalized Support
Each child will receive care tailored to their individual needs, ensuring that they engage in activities that align with their strengths and preferences. Our trained staff have experience in supporting children with a variety of developmental and neurodiverse conditions, creating opportunities for positive engagement and social interaction.
Structured Activities

The program includes sensory-friendly activities, play-based learning, social skill-building exercises, and opportunities for creative expression, all adapted to the child’s unique abilities.
Family Support

While we focus on the well-being of the children in our care, our respite services also aim to provide caregivers with the opportunity to rest and recharge, knowing that their children are in capable hands.
Trained Staff

All staff have completed Crisis Prevention (CPI) – Nonviolent Crisis Intervention (NVCI) and First Aid training. Staff will also be trained to meet the individual needs of each child.

Maltby’s Rec Room (Ages 5-17)

Maltby Rec Room is a partnership program with Family & Children’s services Frontenac, Lennox, & Addington (FACSFLA) and provides supportive care for children and youth aged 5 to 17 with neurodiverse conditions (e.g., Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, sensory processing differences), mental health challenges (e.g., anxiety, depression), and/or developmental disabilities. This program is designed to offer relief to families and/or caregivers while creating a safe, nurturing, and engaging environment for participants to learn, play, and grow.
Program Details:
Program: Operates Wednesday from 3:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
- Services are provided in centre (31 Hyperion Court), with the possibility of community outings.
Eligibility: Children and youth aged 5-17 who meet the outlined criteria and are referred by FACSFLA.
- Present with developmental disabilities, neurodiverse conditions (including but not limited to Autism Spectrum Disorder, ADHD, and sensory processing differences), or mental health challenges (i.e. anxiety and depression).

The program allows children to interact with one another in a fun environment. This allows the opportunity to naturally work on social skills such as making friends, cooperation, making decisions as a group, taking turns, conversation skills, etc.
